A culinary event paired with art, music and a cause.
San Diego, Calif., Oct. 16, 2010 - JOIN US as we plant the seeds for the children’s garden of the future at a feast for the senses. The 5th Annual Fruit of the Soul is a fusion of Arts, Rhythm and Harvest where you can “Give Back & Dance it Out.” Mingle with San Diego’s finest people, more than 30 of our city’s best restaurants, and local artists and musicians to support the preservation of art, music and nutritional education in San Diego at Specialty Produce Warehouse, located at 1929 Hancock St., from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Proceeds for this year’s event go to the Monarch School, A Reason To Survive (ARTS), Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center and Sezio. To date, Fruit of the Soul has raised more than $60,000 for these organizations.
The evening will include: a silent auction; three art trucks, with prints and paintings by local artists, including aspiring young artists from ARTS, community speakers Matt D’Arrigo, Executive Director of ARTS) and Michelle Cox of Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center; and performances by local musicians, including Bushwalla, Mark Boyce (G Love and Special Sauce) Jam Session, Miss Erika Davies and The Monarch School Steel Drum Band!

The Monarch School is a non-profit organization, which works closely with the community and the San Diego County Office of Education to help our homeless youth. They provide an accredited education to homeless and at-risk kids while caring for basic needs such as healthcare, food, clothing and personal hygiene.
A Reason To Survive (ARTS) is a non-profit organization built on the foundation that the arts heal, inspire and empower. Artists, musicians, poets and more teach kids techniques and concepts so they can explore their creativity, express themselves and create something of themselves. It is through the arts that the program helps children who are facing life challenges. Your help will make a difference in the lives of children who live in our community.
Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center is located in National City. The gardens will be a destination for children from the surrounding urban community to explore the connections between plants and history, science, art, literature, math, and nutrition. Crop plants will be grown in a manner that would allow children and community members to actively engage in the production of organic fruit and vegetables. Harvested produce will then be used during nutrition classes, cooking demonstrations, and workshops, which will be held on a covered patio area and outdoor kitchen (capacity 40) adjacent to the garden.
Sezio is a non-profit organization that provides resources, exposure and community support to emerging artists and musicians through a variety of new media, events, retail and community programs.
Fruit of the Soul dedicates its energy to preserving and implementing music, art and nutritional education programs in San Diego. We believe these elements are necessary for left & right brain creativity and growth. We seek local organizations working to sustain the education and experience of art, music and nutrition in youth and young adult’s lives. These organizations are also in need of community support. We work with our beneficiaries to identify the financial need in area(s) of their program, which encompass our mission. We strive to reach each collaborative fundraising goal, assisting these programs through financial support and building community awareness.
